Lavrov Discusses Strait of Hormuz Situation with Qatari FM in Phone Call

(MENAFN) As stated by reports, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a phone call on Tuesday with Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani to discuss the evolving situation surrounding the Strait of Hormuz.

According to a statement from Russia’s Foreign Ministry, both sides agreed that any use of force to resolve the crisis should be rejected, emphasizing the need for coordinated efforts to reach a long-term and stable settlement.

They also underlined that any future arrangement should balance the security interests of Gulf states while ensuring the continued freedom of maritime navigation through the strategic waterway.

The Qatari Foreign Ministry said the discussion also covered bilateral relations and regional developments, including the ceasefire between the US and Iran, along with broader efforts aimed at reducing tensions and strengthening stability in the region.

Both ministers reportedly stressed the importance of engaging with ongoing mediation initiatives to address the underlying causes of the crisis through dialogue rather than escalation, and to work toward an agreement that would prevent renewed conflict, according to the statement.
